For me the 60km Kepler Challenge has become an iconic “non negotiable” event and I can not recommend it highly enough to any runner considering doing their first Ultra Marathon all the way through to serious Ultra athletes.
A fantastic day out for the Great Cranleigh Kauri run today (See the video below).
The 30km run from Waikawau Bay to Coromandel township across the ranges was stunning. Well organised and as usual with trail runs we met some fantastic and friendly people taking part. more
After a sleepless night at Everest base camp listening to the avalanches all around and on the Khumbu ice fall/glacier I was up at 4:15am.
The night was so cold that bottles of water inside the tents froze – along with the occupants (apparently it hit -30deg Celcius).
Unfortunately for me I still had bad case of diarrhea and two weeks of this had still left me fairly weak.
If you are looking for an event this is one of the best sites to check out.
Search by distance, terrain, Location etc and get everything from the basic info through to links to organisers sites.

Aaron Carter and the team have taken their passion for trail running and rides and created a number of fantastic and award winning events and race series for off roaders. A must to check out for year round events in and around Auckland.

Well once again the Xterra team has put on an exceptional event!
This has to be one of the premier events in the NZ off road & triathlon calendar!
The Motatapu Challenge bills itself as “the hardest off road marathon in NZ” so I was really looking forward to a testing run over incredible terrain and the traditional blue skies of central Otago.
